Myoskeletal Alignment Technique (MAT)
Myoskeletal Alignment Technique (MAT) is a form of manual therapy which blends the principles of Osteopathy and Structural Integration to relieve chronic pain and to reduce the potential for emergence of pain which could become chronic over time. Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques combines positional release with an orthopedic focus. Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques engages the nervous system through the proprioceptors in tissue and the mechanoreceptors in joints. In so doing, each MAT position effects muscle and fascia, which includes ligaments. The effects on the ligaments changes joint spacing, mobility and tracking, which in turn further changes muscle tone and fascia.
From low back and neck pain to stiff hips and headaches, Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques can help with a wide range of pain issues-specially those whose pain is chronic and want someone to resolve the root cause of their suffering.
How MAT works:
MAT uses contract-relax techniques to help the nervous system feel less threatened by what has been identified as painful movement. Active pain-free therapy signals the brain that the previously painful movement is now safe. by doing this repeatedly the nervous system will often start to disassociate the movement from the pain. in essence, the goal is to bring "good news" to the nervous system as possible. For example, a rotator cuff injury might require a combination of nerve flossing and tendinopathy techniques in addition to specific home retraining exercises.
